Knowing that he would not enter the holy land alive, at Hashem’s calling, Moses anoints his spiritual student and a natural leader - Joshua. The illumination of Moses was passed on to Joshua.
In the upper left are the daughters of Tzelafchad who had died in the wilderness. They now made a request to share in the land of the tribe of Menasseh to which they belonged. Here was a testament of equality of women with men and it was acknowledged by Aaron.
Below them are the sacrificial animals – the bull and the he-goat, and meal offerings of fruits – all used as part of the rituals of the holy festivals that are mentioned in this parsha.
